FAQ

Common questions about download, licensing, and using your Meta (Facebook, Instagram) or WhatsApp export.

How do I get my Facebook archive?
In Facebook: Settings & privacy → Settings → Your Facebook information → Download your information. Choose posts/photos/videos as needed, then download the ZIP(s).
Facebook gave me multiple ZIP files. Can I use them all?
Yes. If Facebook splits your history into multiple ZIPs and only one ZIP contains some JSON indexes, ingest the ZIPs as a group in the app.
How do I get my Instagram data?
Request a download from Instagram or use Meta Accounts Center to include Instagram in a combined Meta export. The app recognizes folders such as your_instagram_activity and JSON files like posts_1.json inside the ZIP.
What is posts_1.json or “Instagram JSON”?
Meta’s Instagram export includes a JSON file (often posts_1.json under your_instagram_activity/content/) listing captions, timestamps, and media paths. If you extracted the archive to a folder, use File → Instagram JSON… in the app: select that JSON file, then the folder that contains your your_instagram_activity directory so images and videos resolve.
Can Facebook and Instagram be in the same download?
Yes. A single Meta ZIP can contain both your_facebook_activity and your_instagram_activity. Load that ZIP in the app; it detects each part automatically.
How do I load WhatsApp?
WhatsApp exports are separate from the Facebook/Instagram ZIP. On your phone: Export chat (with media). On PC, in the app: File → WhatsApp chat… and select the ZIP or _chat.txt, then your Media folder if prompted. Enter your name as it appears in the chat so only your photos and videos are imported.
Where do I enter my license key?
In the app: File → License…, then paste your key and activate.
How is the license key delivered after payment?
If you purchase via Shopify, it’s typically delivered in the order details (often as an order note). If you don’t see it, contact support with your order number.
How does license purchase work?

1) Click Get a license to open secure Shopify checkout.

2) Complete payment for the FbZipToBluesky License.

3) Your license key is generated automatically after payment.

4) Your key is added to your Shopify order details (order note / confirmation details).

5) Open the app and go to File → License… → Activate, then paste your key.

Important: One license is for one machine. You are responsible for content posted to Bluesky. No refunds are available.

If you don’t see your key: wait 1–2 minutes and refresh your order details page.

Why is there an upload limit per session?
Posting too many items quickly can trigger rate limits or security checks. The app supports a configurable per-session limit to reduce the chance of disruptions.
Can I accidentally upload the same post twice?

During one session, with the same export loaded: After a real (non–dry-run) upload succeeds, that post is marked Posted to Bluesky. The app skips those items on later real runs, so you are not prompted to publish the same item again by mistake.

If you want to post the same content again on purpose (for example you deleted the Bluesky post), load the export again or clear session state — “posted” markers are only kept in memory for the current loaded data. You can also use File → Save review… / Resume review… to persist and restore state.

What happens if I load the ZIP or export again?
Choosing a new Meta ZIP, dragging a different file, loading Instagram JSON, or File → WhatsApp chat… parses a fresh list of posts. In-memory markers (including “posted” status and unsaved review edits) are reset unless you restore a saved review file.

The desktop app warns you if you reload while some posts are already marked posted, so you can cancel or use File → Save review… first. If you continue, you could upload the same media again — so only reload when you intend to restart or switch exports.

What platforms are supported?
Currently: Windows 10/11 (64-bit).
